Modern dual-clutch, direct-shift gearboxes represent the current state of the art in transmission systems. One small but vital component is the hydro-mechanical piston accumulator. It enables silky-smooth gearshifts, even if the oil pump is not running. To ensure that this function continues throughout the car’s lifetime, the piston accumulator’s high-precision components are assembled by robots in a clean room. Over time, even a single speck of dust can cause the gas reservoir to leak and render the piston accumulator inoperable.
